John McCain speaks!

  • Jan. 31st, 2008 at 3:12 PM
My friends, I am a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution fighting against global Jihadist Islamist Islamofascism.  They call me the sheriff and whenever I see Putin, I think KGB.  I was in a charge of a Navy Flotilla and I intend to run the economy the same way because I know nothing about economics and will rely on other people to tell me what to do.  I supported the surge and will sacriface anything and anyone to see it through, no matter the cost in lives or treasure.  Because I am the sheriff and I stopped the bridge to nowhere and have been involved in every national security disaster over the last 30 years.  My friends, I am a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution fighting against global...

Comment to Anderson Cooper

  • Jan. 30th, 2008 at 11:33 PM

Here is what I wrote to Anderson Cooper after watching the so-called debate tonight:

Anderson,

You are a thug, not a moderator. You let McCain and Romney ramble for most of the debate, you don't let Ron Paul answer a question about conservatism after you promise him you would, and you cut him off at one sentence. This is sickening.

You are a credit to the Fatherland, Herr Goebels.

Government's stimulus package

  • Jan. 30th, 2008 at 1:14 PM
Here is a good article on the government involvement with its stimulus package.

 http://www.theatlasphere.com/columns/080130-sowell-stimulus-package.php

As the power of the executive branch of government increases with undeclared wars and foreign intervention at a scale making the Roman Empire look like a village, the violation of civil liberties is increasing as well with the Patriot Act, domestic spying, and other acts that would remind you of Orwell's 1984.

In addition, the government continues its paternalistic attitude toward people fostering a culture of dependency and keeping them in poverty. Our currency is being devalued creating an inflation tax which disproportionately affects the middle class and poor. Our tax system robs everyone of their money and puts it into the bureaucratic meat grinder of unprincipled power corrupting absolutely.

We are reverting back to tyranny and the revolutionary experiment of liberty may end up being a failure.

Tomorrow is "Boston Tea Party '07" day (http://www.teaparty07.com/), which will coincide with the 234th anniversary of the famous Boston Tea Party of 1773 which is widely recognized as helping to spark the American Revolution.

If you want to take back your government while we still can, please check out http://www.ronpaul2008.com/ for yourself. You don't have to agree with everything he says to see that he is the only candidate who will not keep the "status quo." He is the only candidate who doesn't pander to special interests and who has the voting record to prove it. It doesn't matter whether you are a Democrat or Republican, our lives and the survival of our republic are at stake. Take this very seriously. The quality of life of our generation and future generations depend on your full engagement.

Environmentalism Without Government

"Follow the Words of Paul"

  • Dec. 1st, 2007 at 2:07 PM
 http://www.lewrockwell.com/orig8/landingham2.html

This is an outstanding article called "Follow the words of Paul". I am not religious but the article shows just how hypocritical the neo-cons are and Mike Huckabee needs to be exposed as just a "Mr. Nice Guy Gomer Pyle" version of them.

The piece is: http://www.thehoot.net/?module=displaystory&story_id=2508&format=html.

Here are my opinions on various points made in the piece:

I will not comment on the gold-standard issues as I am not familiar with the economics of it as well as I need to be to comment on it thoroughly.

However:

"The rest of Paul’s platform is based on the same idea, that government has no place in our lives. This may appear to be a typical conservative stance, but he takes it much, much farther. In a time when our children are facing competition with children all over the world, Paul wants to eliminate the Department of Education."   The man even opposes the UN, the one body that we can use to achieve global cooperation. In effect, Paul wants to dismantle every government institution that does some good for people. It’s ridiculous! "

Eliminating the department of Education would be the best action that we can take to improve the education of our children.  I don't see our PUBLIC schools as being the model of the world.  Our private schools are much better and if we would let the market handle this, we would get well educated children. So if you want better education, we need to eliminate a department that has shown itself to be inept in what it was designed to do.  If you want to know about public education and its history, take a look  here.

"With global warming becoming a pressing world issue, he wants to eliminate the Environmental Protection Agency. "

He wants to move many issues to the states. When he eliminates a federal department, people think that there will be nothing to replace it. There would either be a state agency or private agencies to deal with this issue.

"He expects all Americans to be self-reliant, and opposes Social Security and Medicare so we don’t have a choice."

We currently don't have a choice because our money is stolen by the government and redistributed in the manner that politicians see best.  He wants to return OUR money back to us so we do have a choice.  He also made it plainly clear that he would not throw existing people off of Social Security or Medicare.  He wants to eliminate the mindset of dependence on the government over time.

The author also writes:

"Supporters call his campaign, “The Ron Paul Revolution”, and they insist that their candidate will provide us with much-needed change. Well, here’s a quote from Paul that seems to illustrate his idea of “change” rather well:

“Why do we need the federal government? There’s no Cold War and no Communist threat. Many other nations are breaking into smaller and smaller pieces. The centralization of power in Washington occurred in a different time. Why not think about getting rid of the federal government, returning to the system of our Founders, and breaking up the United States into smaller government units?” (Austin Chronicle, 1996)

"I’m not afraid of our government, and I would very much like to keep my government intact. What I am afraid of is Ron Paul. As primary season approaches, I can only hope that voters think long and hard before casting their ballots for a radical that we do not need.

This is an opinion with no factual backup.  The author likes the government and many of us do not.  We don't want power to be centralized in one place because the addage that "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely" is true.

As for calling him a radical, that is a compliment as he joining the ranks of : Thomas Jefferson, Mohandas K. Gandhi, Martin Luther King and other great men.

Ron Paul and some of his supporters.

  • Nov. 30th, 2007 at 3:59 PM
It doesn't matter who supports Ron Paul. It is what his policies are and what he plans to do. These have not changed and we have 30 years of record to prove what he did and did not do. He doesn't do flip-flopping nor is he in anyone's pocket. He is not political as he made it clear he wouldn't support just any Republican nominee.

This idea of tying him to his supporters is guilt by association. We can find all kinds of unsavory characters supporting every one of the candidates, yet Ron Paul's supporters are given extra special scrutiny. Why? Because he is rocking the boat and is outside the so-called mainstream. He is a danger to those in power and to those vested in the current establishment.

Republican Debate

  • Nov. 29th, 2007 at 10:28 PM
That debate was a complete joke and shows that CNN is no better than Fox in its journalistic standards. There was clearly a bias toward the mainstream starting with the placing of the mainstream candidates in the center. Why is this necessary?

Then Ron Paul gets 2 questions about a conspiracy theory and running as a third party candidate. He could have read a good book by the time they asked him a question. I think his total air time was about 90 seconds. He wasn't allowed to answer any of the questions regarding the economy and when the U-Tube questioner asked for responses for all candidates, that idiot Anderson Cooper kept picking Huckabee, Giuliani or Romney.

This kind of obvious basis is a disgrace to American Journalism. You don't have to be a Ron Paul fan to see the blatant attempt to push a candidate out of the limelight.

I love the question: What would Jesus do with the death penalty? Well, I think he would say "Let he that has not sinned cast the first stone." We need a president, not a pastor. These neo-conservative Republicans are more concerned with unborn fetuses than with killing thousands of Iraqis AND American Service men and women so that we can continue our dominance in the region and maintain our empire. Well unless there is real change, our empire will fall.

By the way, Ron Paul is the only candidate that can beat the democratic nominee. He has the most consistent record and is against the war more than any other democratic candidate (except Kucinich). And his fiscal conservatism and knowledge of economics is far superior to any of the other candidates who utter stock phrases and politico-talk. He says what is on his mine and he doesn't compromise with his principles. Sure he would need to work with congress and he is well aware of the form of government we have where he will need to make compromises in terms of the details, timetables and so forth of various initiatives, but he won't compromise on basic principles. He will need to work with congress and he knows he cannot make unilateral decisions.

Those people that think that people will be thrown off of welfare, social security, medicare, etc. are completely mistaken. He made it very clear that we have plenty of money to take care of those people, if we bring our troops home and he would work to remove the dependence that current and future generations have on the government. But he honors the commitments made to the previous generation and has made this point very clear.

Finally, the other candidates are now picking up his ideas and claiming them as his own. Huckabee wants to eliminate the IRS. Where did I hear that before. Someone spoke about the falling dollar I believe.

SpiderMan 3

  • Nov. 29th, 2007 at 10:20 PM
This should have been a great movie. It had an excellent story, but we can thank Sam Raimi to screw it up. He has to have scenes that are over the top as though he wants it to be like Super-Man 2.

SPOILERS BELOW:

The ending is absolutely ridiculous. Sand-Man apologizes, Spider-Man forgives him and Sand-Man goes on his merry way. Sand-Man doesn't need to do any jail time for manslaughter. He can just go free completely un-penalized for committing murder. A pat on the back and you get away with murder. It's even easier than OJ's approach.

The Green Goblin was well done, but do you really expect Spider-Man to come to the Green Goblin asking for help when they just had a near death struggle. I don't believe it.

Venom was good and I could understand his motivations.

There was lots of good action in the film, but I felt unsatisfied at the end. The whole trilogy is very disappointing anyway. The best one was Spider-Man 2 as it had one villain only, and Alfred Molina did a great job. It was also the most serious. Spider-Man was Sam Raimi over the top crap except for Cliff Robertson who stole the movie.
This article makes a good point. Ron Paul's platform is the Constitution which is supposed to be the law of the land and is largely an ignored document today.

When the law doesn't rule, men of power will gladly fill the void.
Here is a good article forwarded to me by my friend Chris Sciabarra

A nice video of Ron Paul on monetary policy

  • Nov. 28th, 2007 at 11:18 AM
Liberals should like this video because he shows great concern for poor people with his analysis of the declining dollar. It is also made like a movie with a great soundtrack.

The Aviator

  • Nov. 27th, 2007 at 1:09 AM
Aside from being an excellent film about a great man, this film shows very clearly how the power of government combined with big business can be used to destroy the market in the name of the common good. I know some libertarians may defend big business, but keep in mind they often are the ones clammoring for regulations and government handouts.

In the Aviator, this corrupt partnership is shown quite effectively.

I never knew Martin Scorsese had a libertarian streak in him, but this film has quite a strong opinion on this score.

The second viewing was much better than the first so I strongly recommend that you give it a chance.

Government and education

Food Safety

Since the subject seems to be a favorite of people who believe the government should be in the business of food safety, here is a good entry on the subject:
